WaveTec Vision Systems Inc. (cataract surgery devices) has raised $15.9mm through its Series D venture round to eight investors, including new backers Versant Ventures (lead) and Gund Investment Corp., and returning shareholders Accuitive Medical Ventures and De Novo Ventures. According to the company’s Form D filing, it could bring in another $2mm before closing the financing. Funds will be used to commercialize WaveTec’s Orange intraoperative wavefront aberrometer, which enables cataract surgeons to measure refraction during surgery. The company raised $3.5mm through the sale of debt and other securities this past January.
