A year after launching its first product, rapid molecular diagnostics specialist HiberGene now has a trio of infectious diseases tests under its belt. One of the tests, designed to detect Group B Streptococcus in pregnant women, is expected to be a major cash generator for the firm once it begins its sales ramp-up.

2016 finished with just two more non-US medical device approvals than 2015; December was by far the slowest month of the year for approvals from outside the US with just 11.

Medical devices approved outside the US in October include Medtronic's CoreValve Evolut R, Edwards' Acumen Hypotension Probability Indicator, and two approvals – for two completely different indications – for Ra Medical Systems' excimer laser technology.
