HHS will seek comments on a prospective study to assess the impact of state-certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) practices as part of an HHS proposed rule to re-evaluate whether federal requirements for CRNA supervision should be suspended, HHS Secretary Tommy Thompson announces May 17. Thompson also announced another delay of a Clinton Administration regulation that left to the states determination of which licensed practitioners are allowed to administer anesthesia. Published in the Jan. 18 Federal Register, the reg, which would have taken effect March 18, was previously delayed for 60 days by the Bush Administration
