Italy on verge of €14bn healthcare debt settlement

The Italian government approved on 6 April the first phase of a regional debt bailout programme that earmarks €14 billion ($18.2 billion) to repay healthcare product suppliers alone. Payments are to begin almost immediately; and by the end of May, suppliers should know exactly when all pre-2013 invoices will be paid, while all outstanding debts are due to be settled by the end of 2014.
