Keyhole surgery on the rise in Spain

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Between 10% and 20% of major surgery in Spain is performed laparoscopically, according to the national surgeons’ association (AEC), which next week hosts the 28th annual national congress on surgery (8-11 November, Madrid). Publicising the event, the AEC highlighted last year's introduction in Spain of single-port keyhole appendicectomy, and the growing use and success of the technique in the treatment of a range of conditions, including colorectal cancer and morbid obesity, as factors that have helped boost the volume of laparoscopic procedures.
