Medtronic launches stent delivery system in Canada

Executive Summary

Medtronic's Captivia delivery system is now available in Canada. The device delivers the Valiant thoracic stent graft, a minimally-invasive treatment for aneurysms and other lesions of the thoracic aorta. Captivia was approved by Health Canada on 3 August. The Minneapolis, Minnesota firm also CE marked the device for sale in Europe in October 2009 (www.clinica.co.uk, 9 October 2009). Both the Captivia system and the Valiant graft are investigational in the US, with their use limited to clinical trials.
