Executive Summary
United Biomedical (US) has informed Clinica that it is continuing to contest the validity of Chiron's UK and European hepatitis C patents. United Biomedical (UBI) produces the HCV tests which had been marketed by Organon Teknika in Europe until last year when the Hague District Court in the Netherlands and the UK High Court ordered injunctions against sales of HCV tests by Organon (and Murex) (see Clinica Nos 614, p 1 & 632, p 13). Earlier this month Organon decided not to pursue the dispute, but UBI is not giving up.
