Executive Summary
The US National Institutes of Health has awarded a $100,000 research grant to Abiomed for the development of a tissue- welding technology using growth factor-enhanced solders. Used to enhance the rate of tissue healing through local release of growth factors, the technique has potential applications in a broad range of surgical repair procedures, including suture- less blood-vessel attachments, internal organ repairs and wound closures, says the Danvers, Massachusetts-based company.
