Sofamor Danek intends to set up a joint venture with Kobayashi Pharmaceutical, its Japanese distributor. A letter of intent has been signed which provides that Sofamor will sell its products to the joint venture which will in turn resell these at near-retail prices through Kobayashi Pharmaceutical's distribution network. Kobayashi is a privately-owned pharmaceutical and toiletries manufacturers which is also active in distributing medical devices.
