India's Finance Minister, Manmohan Singh, has announced the government's intention of exempting a range of medical equipment used in dentistry and the treatment of ear and throat diseases from import duty. A wide range of medical equipment was exempted from duty in March under the 1995/96 budget (see Clinica No 648, p 10).
