Executive Summary
Although not a member of the European Economic Area, Hungary looks set to be the first country to introduce regulations based on the European Union's In Vitro Diagnostics-Medical Devices Directive. Since Hungary currently has only basic rules governing IVDs, it hopes to introduce IVD regulations, based on the just published IVD-MD draft Directive, in January 1996. Shortly thereafter a law transposing both the Medical Devices (MD) and Active Implantables (AIMD) Directives will be published.
