Official AIDS figure tops a million

The number of officially reported cases of AIDS has exceeded one million, but the WHO believes the true figure is more likely to be four-and-a-half million - 70% in Africa. The new official figure represents a 20% annual increase. The WHO estimates that 19.5 million people are HIV positive and says the figure could reach 40 million by the end of the decade.
