Executive Summary

A quarter of deaths in Spain are caused by malignant tumours, which have a mortality rate of 205 per 100,000 people. Cardiac disease is the second most common cause of death with 191 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants (22% of total), according to a study carried out by the Health Ministry's epidemiology department between 1980 and 1992. Cerebrovascular disease is the third most common cause, accounting for 13% of deaths in Spain, reports El Pais.
