Angioplasty is no cheap fix for heart attacks in Washington

Executive Summary

Angioplasty may be as clinically effective as clot-buster drugs for heart attack patients, but it costs about $3,000 more, says a report in the New England Journal of Medicine (October 24th). The finding contradicts earlier trials which had found primary angioplasty led to better short term outcomes than thrombolytic drugs and cut hospital costs.
