Socio-economic status is likely to be a key factor in uptake of breast cancer gene testing, according to a multinational study of patient decision-making and outcomes. Writing in JAMA (June 26th), researchers from Canada, France and the US say only a subset of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) family members is likely to request BRCA1 testing when it becomes more widely available.
