Spain's Basque Country health department is to adopt new measures which will see it managed like a private company. A bill, which is to go before the Basque parliament, follows closely recommendations in the Abril report which separates finances from health services. Osakitedza, the name of the new authority, hopes to improve management of funds, supplies and adopt a less rigid approach to the national tenders law.
