German company Merck KGaA is to shut down its declining clinical chemistry business and concentrate on immunodiagnostics. Sales in clinical chemistry represent around 40% of diagnostics turnover of DM 272 million ($190 million) in 1995. Merck will continue to provide service and the necessary test-kits for existing systems in the market.
