Executive Summary
Perceptronics is to begin a six-month Phase I feasibility study of the use of neural networks for screening and detection of diabetic eye disease. Professor Jonathon Javitt, the US company's research partner, will lead a team from the Georgetown University Medical Center to compare the diagnostic performance of a specialised neural network computer system on high-resolution images of retinas with that of human experts.
