Clinical trials of an electronic device for checking lumps in the breast will begin early in 1998 following FDA approval. The device, being developed by UroMed, can be used by a woman to check her own breasts and uses minute pressure sensors to detect lumps and could be more sensitive than using a hand. UroMed hopes to have premarket approval for the device by early 1999.
