A new computerised method for chromosome analysis to help in the diagnosis of inherited diseases is to be developed by Perceptive Scientific Instruments, a subsidiary of International Remote Imaging Systems. It has a $485,000 grant towards building a system that can mathematically determine the bands of chromosomes in a chemical stain.
