The Italian government may raise the patient upper payment limit towards the cost of a series of diagnostic examinations, including laboratory analyses, from Lit 70,000 ($12) to Lit 100,000. The proposal is one of several being considered in the context of the 1998 budget debate. Some Lit 2,000 billion worth of cuts are being considered in the healthcare field.
