Benefits of angiography during heart bypass surgery:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Angiography carried out during minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass (MIDCAB) surgery improves the troubleshooting of graft abnormalities, say two surgeons at Hong Kong's Prince of Wales Hospital. They describe in The Lancet (Vol 350, p 665) how they routinely use a Philips BV300 image intensifier to detect kinks or localised stenoses arising during MIDCAB and correct them immediately, instead of sometimes having to refer the patient to the catheter lab and back to theatre.
