UK company Cortecs has received approval by the Ministry of Health to market its Helisal rapid whole blood Helicobacter pylori test in Japan. Helisal is licensed to Zenyaku Kogyo, which obtained regulatory approval. It will be marketed as Helitest in Japan. H pylori, which is a major cause of duodenal and gastric cancer, is the second most common infection known in man after tooth decay with an estimated 200 million people being infected worldwide. Japan has over 800,000 cases of gastric cancer annually - the highest incidence in the developed world.
