Biomerica has received a US patent covering a test which gives an early warning for insulin-dependent diabetes. The blood test, which detects autoantibodies to insulin-producing islet cells, is already sold outside the US under the name Isletest. It can point out patients who are at risk of diabetes several years before symptoms appear, the Newport Beach, California-based company said.
