Executive Summary
Guidant's Ventak AV-III-DR automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillator has been implanted for the first time. The patient was a 22-year old Canadian who had experienced sudden cardiac death. The AV-III-DR, a 58cm(3) dual-chamber pacer able to discriminate between atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, is 20% smaller than the Ventak AV-II-DR device.
