Executive Summary
The Australian government has set up an expert group to carry out a strategic review of the country's health and medical research community. The review will be the first comprehensive assessment of health-related R&D in Australia since the 1970s, according to Health Minister Dr Michael Wooldridge. The 13-member independent committee is expected to look at areas of research which could contribute to improved treatment methods and reduce healthcare costs and will present a final report to Dr Wooldridge by the end of 1998.
