Executive Summary

The Vironostika human T lymphtrophic virus (HTLV)-I/II Microelisa system, developed by Organon Teknika, has received 510(k) clearance from the FDA. Unlike most commonly used screening tests which are based on HTLV-I material only, the device is also sensitive to the Type II variant of this retrovirus which can cause certain types of leukaemia and lymphoma.
