Executive Summary
European heart surgeons have developed computer-enhanced endoscopic procedures for grafting all the heart's arteries. Using the da Vinci surgical system, made by Mountain View, California-based Intuitive Surgical, surgeons have performed procedures on: left interior mammary artery (LIMA) to left anterior descending artery (LAD); LIMA to circumflex artery; right inferior mammary artery (RIMA) to right coronary artery (RCA); RIMA to LAD; RIMA to diagonal branch; and sequential grafting of the internal mammary artery. Some 11 systems have been sold in the past year and around 300 cardiac procedures have been performed so far.
