Bionx Implants has launched its 4.5mm cannulated SmartScrew system. The product is a bioresorbable implant for maintaining alignment of cancellous bone fractures of the malleoulus of the ankle. The company believes there are 130,000 ankle fractures annually in the US that could be treated with resorbable fracture fixation. Blue Bell, Pennsylvania-based Bionx develops and manufactures self-reinforced, resorbable polymer implants for use in orthopaedic and craniofacial surgery as well as urological applications.
