The Canadian government is to establish a main funding agency for health care research, known as the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). The organisation, which is expected to be in operation by April next year, will be responsible for organising, co-ordinating and funding research in various fields including biomedical and clinical research. Canadian Health Minister Allan Rock announced at the end of last month that an extra Can$65 million ($43 million) will go towards CIHR over the next two years.
