Diagnostic instrument manufacturer Instrumentation Laboratory says that increased competition in its home market in Italy continued to adversely affect sales in the first quarter of 1999. Revenues for the quarter fell 1% to Lit106 billion ($5.7 million) and profits were 8% down to Lit47 billion.
