The US Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) has decided to lift its non-coverage policy on insulin infusion pumps and extend coverage of external pumps for the treatment of patients with uncontrollable Type I, insulin dependent diabetes. The agency, which runs the Medicare federal health plan for the elderly, could announce its policy reversal as early as September 7, sources said last week.
