This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Integrated Surgical Systems claims that German surgeons have used its Robodoc surgical assistant system to perform the world's first successful robot-assisted total knee replacement surgery. The procedure took around the same time to perform as a conventional total knee arthroplasty (TKA), but eliminated the need for many of the tools, such as jigs and intermedullary rods, required by the traditional approach, said the Davis, California-based company.
