Law to cut one million US sharps injury tally

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Eight million US healthcare workers are guaranteed better protection from needlestick injuries following the passage of needlestick safety and stick safety legislation in the US. Up to one million sharps injuries occur in the US healthcare community every year, says Johnson & Johnson subsidiary, Ethicon Endo Surgery, Vascular Access. Injured workers are exposed to a variety of bloodborne diseases, but the new law will prevent this, as it requires healthcare facilities to use safety devices (see Clinica No 930, p 8).
