Executive Summary
Researchers have begun US clinical trials to assess an easy-to-swallow, camera-carrying capsule that can pinpoint disorders of the digestive tract. The M2A imaging capsule, made by Given Imaging, will be tested on 15 to 20 patients with suspected small bowel disorders. Data from the trial will form part of the Israeli company, Yoqneam's, US marketing application to the FDA. The device, which could provide a painless alternative to standard invasive gastrointestinal endoscopy, has already shown positive results in a UK trial (see Clinica No 910, p 1).
