Get human tissue definition correct now, demands industry

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The European medical devices industry association, EUCOMED, is concerned that the latest official EU definition of human engineered products could be over-restrictive and result in regulations covering too limited a range of medical devices containing human tissues. Publication of the European Commission's Scientific Committee on Medicinal Products and Medical Devices' (SCMPMD) Opinion on The State of the Art Concerning Tissue Engineering, has prompted EUCOMED to demand the Commission look again at how it will define these products in forthcoming legislation.
