Executive Summary

US cell biologists have genetically engineered bovine adrenal cells which divide indefinitely, and have safely transplanted them into mice, where they replaced the animals' missing adrenal glands. In doing so they have opened up new avenues for tissue engineering, including the possibility of generating an unlimited supply of certain types of human cells for use in skin, bone and bone marrow transplants.
