NIH (National Institutes of Health) to double TSE (transmissible spongiform encephalopathy) research

Executive Summary

The US Department of Health and Human Services has launched a department-wide action plan to improve scientific understanding of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs). As part of the plan, the National Institutes of Health will more than double its current spending for research on TSEs by the end of fiscal year 2002, including work on such diagnostic tests as an effective screening test for vCJD.
