The Italian health ministry is to develop a new AIDS research and prevention programme "of national and European significance" as a matter of top priority. The announcement comes with the re-appointment, for a further one-year term, of its anti-AIDS commission. The 16-strong team will be headed by the new health minister, Professor Girolamo Sirchia.
