Executive Summary
Guidant has CE-marked for sale in Europe its next-generation Galileo intravascular radiotherapy system. Compared with the firm's original device, the latest Galileo 40/60 automated system can be used to treat longer coronary artery segments with an equivalent source length of up to 60mm and smaller reference lumen diameter arteries as small as 2.4mm. Patients with this type of coronary artery disease are generally prone to higher rates of restenosis, the company says.
