German parliamentary secretary of state for health Gudrun Schaich-Walch has severely criticised experts and politicians who believe that the solution to the German health system's problems is privatisation. "One glance at the US tells us that a privatised system is more expensive is lacking in overall quality care," she said. She did, however, acknowledge that state-run health services, as in the UK, may be cheaper, but had problems of their own, such as growing waiting lists.
