World Heart says that it is on track to begin clinical trials of its fully implantable ventricular assist device for treating patients with end-stage heart disease. The HeartSaverVAD is expected to enter clinical trials in Canada in the second half of 2001, says Roderick Bryden, the Ottawa, Ontario company's president and CEO. He added that in vivo preclinical trials and in vitro trials of the device are expected to continue throughout the second and third quarters of the year.
