Executive Summary

The Swiss federal council has published an ordinance of safety measures concerning the sterilisation of medical instruments that must be followed by doctors and hospitals to prevent the transfer of vCJD. The ordinance, which has yet to be sent to parliament for approval, will give legal authority to recommendations made in 1996 and upgraded in 2001.
