Executive Summary

Lifecor has gained US approval to market its third generation LifeVest wearable defibrillator. The WCD 3000 LifeVest, which has been available in Europe since November 2001, weighs just 1.7lbs, compared with the previous version, which weighs 3lbs, says the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania firm. It is worn under normal clothing where it continuously monitors the patient's heart. If a life-threatening rhythm is detected and the patient is unconscious, the device delivers an electrical shock to restore normal rhythm.
