Cardiac Science has secured a contract to supply the Spanish army with automatic external defibrillators (AEDs), as part of a national initiative launched in 2001. The Irvine, California-based company markets AEDs in more than 30 countries and claims to have a 20% share of the global AED market. This is expected to grow to 250,000 units a year by 2006, worth over $650 million, according to a 2000 report by Frost & Sullivan.
