Bavarian doctors reject DMPs (disease management programmes)

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

Doctors in Bavaria last week refused to take part in the German federal ministry of health's disease management programmes (DMPs), designed to offer comprehensive treatment to the chronically ill. The Bavarian association of statutory health insurance physicians (KVB) in Munich claimed that the enormous increase in administrative spending contained within proposals for establishing the DMPs by summer 2002 was aimed purely at providing support for the precarious financial situation of the statutory health insurance funds. "Medical care will not increase in quality, but rather in cost," said Dr Axel Munte, chairman of the KVB.
