UK money for cancer equipment pays off trust debts:

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

How can the UK government be sure that money allocated to NHS trusts for the purchase of medical equipment is used for that purpose? This is a question that has arisen in a report by members of parliament that attempts to track what has happened to the £280 million ($398 million) the government allocated specifically to cancer care, including for the purchase of over 300 units of medical equipment. "We are seriously concerned at the apparent ease with which trusts can redeploy such funds if they choose," the report says, reflecting the fact that much of the money due for allocation by 2005-6, seems to have been spent by the trusts in paying off their debts.
