LBC (liquid-based cytology) provision bombshell with change in NHS age-range policy

This article was originally published in Clinica

Executive Summary

The NHS Cancer Screening Programme is to raise the minimum age for cervical screening from 20 years to 25. The announcement, made last week on the same day as the decision to approve the introduction of liquid-based cytology (LBC) as a means of updating the standard Pap system (see Clinica No 1080, p 10), came as a bombshell to oncologists and cytologists alike.
