Executive Summary
Fibrex, a 2001 spin-off of medical device incubator and technology broker Hatch Medical (Atlanta, Georgia), has licensed manufacturing and distribution rights to its catheter patency device technology to Medical Device Technologies (MD Tech). The coil-based device employs a mechanical corkscrew effect that noninvasively disrupts fibrin sheath formation on external and internal surfaces of vascular access catheters. Fibrin formation is a common occurrence in haemodialysis and the conventional alternative for catheter stripping is femoral vein puncture. The system will be produced at MD Tech's Gainesville, Florida site and sold through its direct sales force and distributor network.
