Events surrounding a product recall by Olympus America have raised questions about the US FDA's recall process for medical devices. Johns Hopkins Hospital announced last week that infections caused by contaminated bronchoscopes manufactured by the Melville, New York company may have contributed to the deaths by pneumonia of two critically ill patients at the hospital.
